Lilonghouses, or lane houses, uniquely blend traditional Chinese courtyard houses with Western townhouses, reflecting Shanghai’s cross-cultural heritage. While Chinese courtyard houses emphasize introverted horizontal spaces, Western townhouses feature extroverted vertical spatiality. This architectural fusion mirrors Shanghai's international and progressive spirit during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

From the courtyard, views extend into both the living and dining rooms at ground level. The living room's recessed position creates a sheltered walkway leading to the home's custom dark bronze entrance door.

The space combines white travertine with custom-dyed walnut wood, whose light tone harmoniously complements the travertine while maintaining walnut's characteristic grain patterns.
